Soprano

French soprano Clara Barbier Serrano is studying at the Royal College of Music on the Artist Diploma in Opera (Opera Studio) course with Alison Wells. She is the first recipient of the Andrea Bocelli Foundation – Community Jameel Scholarship.She graduated from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig with a Bachelor of Music with Carola Guber, specialising in the art song repertoire with Alexander Schmalcz, and from 2017 to 2019 was a scholarship holder of the Deutschlandstipendium, and since 2019 is part of the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now E.V. Leipzig. She took part in masterclasses with artists such as Regina Werner, Neil Semer, Christine Schäfer, Anne le Bozec and Eric Schneider.Passionate about Art Song, she was a finalist of the International Lied Duo Competition 2017 in Groningen, and winner of the  “Vrienden van het Lied“ Award with pianist Pieter van Delden. Since then she regularly sings recitals and developed a rich and diversified song repertoire. She performs as a duo with pianist Mediha Khan and they will take part in the Udo Reinemann Masterclass 2020-2021 in Brussels.In concert she performed numerous solo soprano parts such as Mozart’s, Fauré and Brahms’ Requiem, several Bach cantatas as well as Honegger’s Le Roi David with the Staatskapelle Halle, and Beethoven’s Mass in C with the Orchestra of the HMT Leipzig conducted by Matthias Foremny. She also has a wide repertoire of baroque music and has sung regularly with the Ensemble 1684 under the direction of Gregor Meyer.Her first roles on the opera stage were Despina and Susanna in La Petite Bande Summer Academy in Italy in 2015 and 2017. In the 2017-18 saison, Clara sang the 1st Knabe in Zauberflöte at the Leipzig Opera. In the summer 2018 she sang Rosmene in an independent production of Händel’s Imeneo and Queen of the Night for the festival “Klassik für Kinder”. In the winter of 2019 she was Taumännchen in Hänsel und Gretel at the Leipzig Opera.As part of the Verbier Festival Academy in 2019, she sang Papagena under the baton of Stanislav Kochanovsky and had opera and art song masterclasses with Thomas Hampson, Thomas Quasthoff and Barbara Frittoli.Interdisciplinary projects and contemporary repertoire also belong to her musical journey: she premiered the piece -O- by Fojan Garibnejad in 2019, and is part of Juliette Rahon & Co, a dance and interdisciplinary artists company for “La Dernière Sarabande”, to be performed in Leipzig in November 2020. She will perform for the premier of Nicholas Jackson’s short opera “Le Petit Prince” at Drapers Hall in October 2020.

Die Sopranistin Clara Barbier Serrano wurde im 1996 in Montpellier geboren, und begann mit 6 Jahren, Geige zu spielen und im Chor zu singen. In Paris folgte ihre Gesangsausbildung und sie studierte nebenbei Barock Geige, Musiktheorie und Analyse. Ihr Bachelorstudium hat sie an der HMT Leipzig in 2020 abgeschlossen, wo sie bei Prof. Carola Guber und in der Liedklasse von Prof. Alexander Schmalcz studierte. Sie erhielt in 2017-2019 das Deutschlandstipendium, und ist seit 2019 Stipendiatin des Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now e.V. Leipzig. Ab September 2020 studiert sie weiter im Opernstudio vom Royal College of Music in London. Sie ist da die erste Stipendiatin von der Andrea Bocelli Foundation – Community Jameel Scholarship. Sie nahm an Meisterkurse bei Künstlern wie Regina Werner, Christine Schäfer, Neil Semer, Anne le Bozec, Thomas Hampson und Thomas Quasthoff teil. Sie sammelte Erfahrungen im Bereich Konzertgesang mit Solopartien wie Mozarts, Fauré und Brahms Requiem, Honeggers Le Roi David, und entwickelte ein reiches Kirchen- und Alte- Musikrepertoire.  In der International LiedDuo Competition 2017 in Groningen erhielt sie mit dem Pianisten Pieter van Delden den « Vrienden van het Lied Award ». Seitdem gibt regelmäßige Liederabende (Schumannhaus Leipzig, Amsterdam Opernfoyer,  Peter de Grote Festival u.a.). Zusammen mit der Pianistin Mediha Khan wird sie in 2020-2021 an der Udo Reinemann Masterclass in Brüssel teilnehmen.Auf der Opernbühne trat sie als Despina und Susanna in einer Sommerakademie in Collevecchio, Italien. An der Oper Leipzig sang sie den Ersten Knaben und Taumännchen, und auf der freien Bühne trat sie als Rosmene (Imeneo, Händel) und Königin der Nacht (in einer Kurzfassung der Zauberflöte für « Klassik für Kinder ») in Leipzig auf. Im Sommer 2019 nahm sie an der Verbier Festival Academy teil, wo sie Papagena unter der Leitung von Stanislav Kochanovsky sang und Meisterkurse für Lied und Oper erhielt. Interdisziplinäre Projekte und neue Musik sind auch wichtig in ihrer musikalischen Weg; ihre nächste Projekte sind eine Uhraufführung von Nicholas Jacksons Oper “Le petit Prince” in London und eine Zeitgenössische Tanzperformance in Leipzig mit Juliette Rahon & Co, “La dernière Sarabande”.
